A: Income +
Assets +
Goodwill = value
Good luck!
Q: Are humans of more intrinsic value than animals? Why or why not?
A: Yes. Humans are the literal spiritual offspring of our Heavenly Father.
Matt. 10: 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
Q: Evolutionists: Are humans of more intrinsic value than animals? ?
we came from monkeys right as you would say.....
A: If humans had more intrinsic value (whatever that means) than other animals, then it stands to reason that certain humans would have more intrinsic value than other humans. This line of thought leads to racism, nationalism, elitism, hierarchal culture, etc. but this view is wrong and cannot be supported by science. However, it is unfortunate that in fact, this is exactly the sort of world we have made – we ARE racist and hierarchal – some humans ARE worth more than others but you won’t find any scientific basis for this view at all. To explain our biases, nearsightedness and bigotry, try a comparative and historical study of religion.
Q: What gave a person value or worth?
I am not a believer in external agents giving value. I believe we have no intrinsic value or given value by way of a deity's sacrifice. I belive that somewhere in the crevices or folds of human history, man has asked this many times, yet the answer remains unclear.
Am I not on the right track when I say individual value is created by the individual? There is no safety in this thought and may imperil certain universal notions of human rights, but how can life be so base/simple and uniform that meaning should be one and the same for all? Why has the individually forged path become so precarious?
A: Your answer to your own question is entirely conditioned by modernity's fear of metaphysics and pre-occupation with subjectivity. Get at the root of that fear and you will discern a way in which you can conceive of an objective reality without a necessary diminishment of a subjective sense of identity and freedom. Alasdair McIntyre lays all this out quite well in his book, "Three Rival Versions of Moral Enquiry."
Q: Are humans of more intrinsic value than animals? ?
Why or why not?
A: Since we are created in the image of God... I would rather hunt an animal than disrespect or spit in the face of another human being, which would be disrespectful to God in who's image they were created.
To unbelievers, the poor, the less intelligent, less fortunate or those who think differently than they, seem to have no intrinsic value any more than an animal to them.
Unbelievers seem to base the value of people on their wealth, or education, or social status... Or where they stand on certain issues.
But to me, all humans are created equal & intrinsically have the same value & are cared about the same by their creator.
Q: does human life have intrinsic value?
do all individuals have/need the same rights to life?
A: Yes, all humans have intrinsic value. Value that by our very nature it belongs to us. However, I will further say that even though we are valuable we can loose value due to our actions. Things like murder cause individuals to loose equality with others.
I do see though how this begs the question, can we gain value based on our actions? Mother Theresa and all her works? What about the murderer who feels mortified and guilty by his actions and spends the rest of his life doing good for the sake of others?
So, I believe that our value is intrinsic but the level of equality can vary.
Q: What does Intrinsic Value mean?
A: Something has an intrinsic value when it is valuable "in itself" or "for its own sake".
Q: extrinsic value without intrinsic worth?
Can it be possible for some thing or some action to have extrinsic value if the goal to which it leads has no intrinsic worth? Why?
A: Nice question.
Anyone who collects celebrity autographs or memorabillia knows the difference. 'ebay' is full of things with no intrinsic worth, but considerable extrinsic value.
Of course, both value and worth are extremely subjective words and so are subject to a very personal perspective.
An absolute sort of example - a baby has no intrinsic worth (a baby is all unrealised potential) but most people would agree a baby is also extrinsically valuable (our futures depend on them).
Q: Does the earth/environment have intrinsic value??
A: Without doubt because everything material that we have from a diamond to an iPod to a wooden bowl comes from there. One major reason we are in the mess we are now is that the "science" of modern Economics is fundamentally flawed and assumes an infinite supply of raw materials.
If you find the time then look out a book called "Natural Capitalism" by Paul Hawken, Amory B Lovins & L Hunter Lovins or check out the website referenced below where you will find excerpts in pdf format.
Q: Does human life have any intrinsic value?or is it we who give the value to our lives?
i think the latter(scratch that i KNOW its the latter) , what are your views concering this ?
A: They have intrinsic value and it is the consciousness that make them aware of that . Both way you are right.
Q: Does God have any intrinsic value?
If so, what value does it have.
A: Dieties themselves have no inherent value. However, the power of belief held by the people who worship them can have immense importance. The belief in god/gods has assisted in creating value systems that hold society together. Granted, it has also caused great rifts between cultures, and society would have progressed without it due to the fact that people cannot live together without rules. But, society might not have evolved as swiftly to where it is today without it.
