Q: Anyone know of an industry regulator you can complain to if your having problems with cable, broadband etc?
Virgin media have been overcharging me for months... And I wanna make my complaint official
It is the broadband. I switched to 4mb from 1mb the changed my mind a few months later. They reduced the service back to 1meg but not the bill
A: I think the best way, firstly is to call up virgin media... Ask them the relevant questions....
I don understand that they put you on hold for a long period of time... and with that stupid song playing at the background... you just might wanna shoot yourself....
Secondly, if they can't solve the issue... try Oftel; now known as Ofcom, they are the regulatory body for Communications Industry in the UK http://www.oftel.gov.uk/ now known as http://www.ofcom.org.uk/ or 020 7981 3040.
Then get your documents and your statements from your bank. It is important for you to file them up, for proof of money debited from your account. and go see a solicitor.... you may get free broadband for a year... or compensation... Sue them.... it's about time someone did this....
Q: Does it seem difficult to find steady employment in the Telecom industry lately?
Wondering what kind of luck other techs have had in this industry.. cabling/systems/network. Thanks.
A: i was thinkni the same thing, have had trouble myself
Q: what is the future of cable TV industry?
A: According to John Ellis, and what, in my opinion, sounds like a very reasonable and well thought out theory, television is entering the "Era of Plenty" where cable, digital and satelite TV will increasingly concentrate their efforts on producing genre defined channels such as National Geographic, Discovery, Sci-Fi, Sky Movies, History Channel and so on.
Terrestrial broadcast TV won't die out as such, but it will not carry as many high-budget programs as the subscription channels will, although it will still play an important part in television, mostly to create the branding that will then help to entice the viewers to watch and pay for the subscription channels on digital TV.
Q: I am looking for HD TV Digital Cable Ready 20" and 32" TVs Does anyone know of any?
I am looking for HD TV Digital Cable Ready 20" and 32" TVs Does anyone know of any that are on the market at this time 2007?
This was an answer given .
It looks like the cable industry is moving away from Cable-Card in favor of Switched Digital Video - a system that serves up programming upon request. No SDV TVs on the market yet, unfortunately.
Switched Digital Video
What does Switched Digital Video - (a system that serves up programming upon request) means ?
A: All TV's made after March 1, 2007 were mandated to contain digital tuners. The manual will tell you if it's an HD monitor.
Q: Monopolies are less efficient than if the industry were pure competition. Does this apply to cable TV?
A: yes
even though the way cable TV is set up we can only have one caple provider in an area. When cable has to run against other similar tv products like satellite cable tries to improve their services or at least cut prices.
Q: Have radio&tv industry used the advent of cable, net,&satellite channels as excuse to avoid publicservice duty?
When I used the term "public service duty", I was referring to the news reporting, news investigating, and news analysis functions of the broadcasters which was always understood as an obligation/duty to society as part of the granting of their licenses to transmit over the public's airways.
Ist Answerer has mistakenly focused on public service ads(PSA's) as the meaning of Public Service Duty which entails much more than that: ie., the delivery of community, state, national,& international news and news analysis by journalists on behalf of community in line with the role of the free press in the 1st Amendment of the constitution.
The 2nd answerer, well whoever the person is, he or she is clueless and has no historical understanding of what are the duty-to-the-public rolesof the radio&tv industry.
Still 3 days left for answerers to edit existing A's or for other A's to be posted.
Nobody has answered the Q. Instead I get 2 explanations justifying the dropping of their former public service duties and roles.
How sad! TWH 07252006
A: No, the reason for abandoning the public service duty is twofold. They can make more money in other ways, and it's actually in their best interest (as well as the government's) to protect their own interests rather than the public's.
Q: Either house of Congress may respond to charges of price-gouging in the cable TV industry by using its?
A.investigative power
B.lawmaking power
C.judical power
D.oversight power
A: Congress can investigate price-gouging in cable TV in aid of legislation. They can summon people who are involved in this irregularity for investigation before a panel of Congressmen.
Q: What is the future of cable Television industry in India ?
Analog as well as Digital signal
A: I think the cable television will get compressed to a one single unit.
Probably there will be a centralised system through which the service will be provided.
Also the DTH and Dish TV kind of services will increase so that the people will get rid of paying monthly bills.

Q: When the T.V. industry goes 100% digital next year will that affect people that have cable boxes already?
What recommendations for new TVs under $500 do you have?
A: The TV industry is not going 100% digital.
Cable and Satellite are not directly affected. Only Over the air analog TV is being discontinued.
The cable industry has agreed to continue to provide analog versions of the local over the air TV until 2012, or to furnish converter boxes.
Whatever your present cable service, it shouldn't need to change.
However, you can expect some cable operators to start moving some of their analog offerings to digital, and to encourage customers to get digital service.
Over the air TV from an antenna will still be available using a digital to analog converter box. The Government is providing up to two $40 coupons per household;d towards the purchase of two converter boxes which are expected to cost about $70 or less each before coupon.
The coupons can be applied for now.

As far as recommendations for TVs is concerned, I suggest you get the December issue of Consumer Reports from your Library. They review a large number of sets. When it comes to these new digital sets, it may be very attractive to go with the lowest price you can find. The problem is that not only is the performance poorer, but the reliability and support are much poorer. For many of them, once the warranty is over, there's no service available once they fail.

Q: What are some problems with using fiber optic cables in the telecommunications industry?
A: Easily cut, construction workers cut them all the time and have to pay a huge amount of money to fix them because they are hard to resplice. That drives cost of using up and desirability to use down.
Also they are expensive to make, repeater stations especially so. But the biggest disadvantage is that computers don't have a good way to attach to the fiber, color ports are very expensive, and so people would rather pay $100 for a router than $1000+ for a fibrous one.
Q: Should a Christian work at cable companies where aldult Channels are sold?
I am the sales director of a Telco who recently bougth a cable company, this new company, as the rest in the industry, offers adult channels to clients who order them, Do you think I could keep my job and still have a good testimony?
A: That's not the kind of thing a bunch of total strangers on the Internet can advise you about.
Talk to your pastor.

3.How they distribute or specified the sources of revenues?
4.Do Cable companies sell advertising time within someone else network??
5.Where can I find more info on this industry?
Thanks
A: they make money because they get paid for advertisements companies make on their channels
Q: Should I feel guilty for considering a 'black cable box' as a means of cutting down my monthly expenses?
I've been bouncing arround this option for a while now. What would be some negative consequences if any? Is there a way to trace the signals back to the black boxes? Good cable is so expensive today. Why? Are they really monopolizing the industry?
A: If there are three houses, I am on the left - one in the middle and another to the right. If i yelled over from my house to the house to the right of me, and the middle one still heard my voice, he heard my voice whether he wanted to or not.
now we can all agree that theft is theft, but, I am not sure if this one qualifies as theft, as the signal is already there. so, whos to know what is right in this matter? Should the cable company be charged with trespassing because they are running invisable signals accross your property? Its a known fact that these powers are very strong and can cause health problems. What about cell phones, etc. can I sue this company if I get cancer because of exposure to something i didnt agree to? What about the birds and the butterflies and bees that die because of these signals.???
Q: what is your opinion on the role of the multimedia and entertainment industry in shaping today's society? ?
the multimedia and entertainment industry encompasses cable, satellite, programming/content, radio, Internet, print, and telecommunications including the manufacturers of hardware used by all.
:) thanks a bunch. i need other opinions for media class!
