Q: What resolution (DPI) and what format (EPS, JPEG) should have an A4 background image for Word?
I would like to create a Word template with a watermark (containing logos, and other background elements). I do not know what is the most economical size and formate (the doc is A4 and is it JPEG or EPS what gives back the best the logo and other sharp forms?) for my Word document. Thanks for your help!
A: If you are talking about geometric forms then JPEG is the wrong format. It is optimised for photographic images and blurs straight lines. EPS, PNG or GIF would be good. The resolution depends on requirements, for a printed glossy brochure use a high resolution for screen only lower - you are best off experimenting to find this. Create your image in a high resolution and use a graphics package (paint, gimp, photoshop) to produce various lower resolution versions.
Edit:
just "JR" mentioned TIFF, which is a also a good rasta-image format. There are several types of TIF:
Uncompressed
CCITT 1D
Group 3 Fax
Group 4 Fax
LZW
JPEG
PackBits
The fax and JPEG formats are not suitable for your purpose.
Q: Why are common shares the only type of shares included in the EPS (earnings per share) calculation?
Given that the EPS (earnings per share) figure is supposed to be used as a measure of the company's profitability per share, what is the rationale behind not taking preferred shares into account when calculating it?
A: They're not.
Basic EPS is Net income - preferred dividends/weighted average shares outstanding.
This isn't a good indicator of true EPS which is why all finical statements included diluted EPS. Diluted takes into account Warrants, Stock Options, and Convertible Bonds. Each one has their own affect on diluted by either raising or lowering the numerator or denominator. Giving a more accurate picture. I won't go into how each one affects EPS because it is really quite complicated, but if you know someone who is an accountant or in accounting school every intermediate book will have a chapter on EPS which goes into great detail.
Now the reason preferred shares aren't taken into account (except for dividends) is because they are preferred. They have special rules. And one of the big ones is that usually they always get paid or will be expecting payment in arrears in a few years. Common stock holders don't have such rights. Preferred stock isn't valued in the way that common stock is and most people cannot just go and buy preferred stock. EPS is a per share amount for common stock valuation.

Q: How much would a few Sims 2 eps go for on eBay?
The eps are Nightlife, University, and Seasons. I have no need for them since I uninstalled the base game. I hoping i can sell them for engough so ill be a step closer to buying a ds lite. (Ive almost given up hope on my old one...)
A: I just looked on eBay! Here are the highest that i found with at least one bid. The number of bids and prices are listed.
Nightlife = $11 = 11 Bids
University = $13.50 = 8 Bids
Seasons = $9.38 = 6 Bids
Honestly, University will get the most money. Don't expect Nightlife or Seasons to get much money, Nightlife because it comes with Double Deluxe. In all this will get you around 30 dollars. That is the price of one of the games. Also, it might not make a difference but see how much. I hope this helps in your quest for the DS Lite. I just got one and that system is worth the money compared to the old DS. Also, get the DS NEW not used. The difference aint much but it is worth it to know you are getting a working game system! Have a great day.
Q: Where to fund companies EPS Guidance on the annual or quarterly report?
I m researching a small canadian tractor company based in my city and is very reputable named Buhler Industries. It's market cap is under 500m and they have no analyst coverage which is good because it is undiscovered but there are no EPS estimates into the futur so therefore I would like to base my valuation models from the companies own growth guidance figures!
A: You can check yahoo for any estimates that might be lurking out there. You can read the annual report and press releases. You can call the company and ask the CFO. Be prepared with some general questions as well as specifics. Over a longer time, you can drive by their office and factory once a month at the same time of day and count how many cars are in the parking lot. Catch some employees after work and ask if they are working overtime or cutting back. Find a friend who works there. get a job there yourself.

Q: What is the difference between EPS and Dividend?
If dividend is the part of the earnings that is distributed to its shareholders, how to understand Earnings Per Share?
Please help me in understanding the difference.
Thanks.
A: EPS, also known as Earnings per share, is the companies income divided by the number of shares outstanding. This can also be broken down into diluted EPS, which is usually better for analysis. A dividend is the money tha the company actually distributed to its shareholders. There can be, and usually is a difference between EPS and dividends.
Q: when designing should I save as a PDF or EPS?
Is it better to save my print designs for possible use in the future as a PDF file or a EPS?
A: Save working documents as eps. There is more details to use later. They will take up more memory, but you may need it later.
Save viewing and proofing files as pdf. It is a more universal file format that anyone with a pdf viewer can see.
Q: how i can calculate the annual EPS growth to a certain share?
PEG ratio = PE ratio / annual EPS growth
its easy to find the PE ratio, but i need to know what is "annual EPS growth"; what data needed to be calculated in simple and easy formula. ,
A: You take this year's EPS minus last year's EPS then divide by last year's EPS this gives you the percentage of Annual EPS growth. Everyone seems to forget that this is a percentage thus one must divide by the previous year's data.
Q: What exactly are GAAP and non-GAAP figures? Of the two, what comes under EPS and EPS (adjusted) respectively?
Is there a like a general thumb-rule to follow while identifying these figures?Examples in sectors like retail, real estate, banking, etc would be helpful!!!
A: GAAP is a broad term that relates to all accepted US accounting rules. Generally, all financial reports or filings must comply with GAAP. EPS is only computed from GAAP net income. For a long time, companies liked to disclose in their earning release non GAAP figures, which made their earning look better as they did not have to comply with the various accounting rules. New rules have come out which severely limit the amount and type of non GAAP information that can be communicated to the public, specifically if it is earnings related.
The most common non GAAP figure is EBITDA (earnings before income taxes, depreciation and amortization). Industry examples include 'same store sales' for retail, and 'capital ratios' for banking.
